This medium medallion is approximately .75" x 1" oval with a Hummingbird is handcrafted of lead free pewter and on an approximately 21" chain.
Hummingbirds are among the smallest birds in the world, measuring only 3-5 inches. In flight, they flap their wings up to 80 times per second, creating a "humming" noise. They are also the only group of birds which are able to fly backwards. Archeology shows that hummingbirds were very prized and idolized animals by native people in Mexico and Peru. Long ago the Aztecs would wear talismans depicting a hummingbird, which were believe to grant energy and skill in warfare to the wearer, and the Nazca Lines in Peru depict a hummingbird that is 305 feet long and can only be viewed clearly from the air.
